Man Finds Rs. 5,000 in SBI Shares His Grandfather Purchased in 1991; Find Out The Current Value

A Chandigarh doctor was taken aback when he discovered that his grandpa had invested 5,000 rupees in SBI shares. During the process of combining the family’s possessions, Dr. Tanmay Motiwala discovered share certificates from the State Bank of India. He learned that his grandpa had acquired SBI shares in 1994 for ₹5,000, but he didn’t know why or even whether they still had them.

He eventually changed his earlier assumption that the shares’ face value was 500 rupees to 5000 rupees. He said that the IPO listing price of the shares opened at a premium and that the purchase price would be $5,000 instead of $500.

What Is The Present Worth Of The 5,000 SBI Shares I Purchased In 1994?
The physician said that the current value of the SBI shares is ₹3.75 lakh, resulting in 750 times more returns over a three-decade period.

He said, “My grandparents had bought SBI shares worth 500 ₹ (later corrected to 5K) in 1994,” in a post on X. It had slipped their minds. They didn’t even know whether they owned it or why they had bought it. While arranging my family’s belongings in one location, I came across a few of these certificates.”

“A lot of individuals are now inquiring about its worth. Without dividends, it is around 3.75L. It’s not much, but 750 times over 30 years is a lot. Really very large,” he continued.

Calculations of SBI Shares’ Current Value
He corrected his previous statement by saying, “I got it from my advisor, so the buying price would be 5000 and not 500.” This means that the share price started at a premium during the IPO listing.final value does not change. Once again, 3.7L or 5L—after taking into account the 1:10 split that results in 500 shares—is not a significant sum for many individuals.

User Response to Trending Tweet
Another user related a similar story with SBI shares, stating that his grandpa, an employee, had 500 shares of the company. He stated that, at some point after his father passed away, he received these bonds when he was 17 years old, went to a local share broker, and eventually was able to sell them via a series of steps.

Some users, however, were pleased with the current value and said, “500 invested in 1994 is now $3,70,000.”
