Review of the Sony WH-CH250: A capable performer on a budget

The TWS, boy! They undoubtedly alter the playing field. They are lightweight, portable, and those premium models? Wow, these have a tonne of features—with the obvious exception of noise-cancellation. So it seems difficult to stop using wired headphones, isn’t it? However, headphones never unintentionally come off way those TWS do.

Because of this, I was ecstatic when Sony upped their game and unveiled the WH-CH520, an on-ear wireless headset that is reasonably priced and just fantastic. Tell you what, this little guy offers an amazing 50 hours of battery life on a single charge. I know, I was first dubious as well, but Sony keeps their promise—this battery life is quite outstanding. Even with my daily use of two to three hours, it lasted me over two weeks right out of the box with a 100% charge. And here’s the best part: even a short five-minute charge provides a full hour of playback. Talk about comfort!

The WH-CH520 has a comfortable design. The padded, swivelling ear cups and adjustable headband fit securely and provide all-day comfort. However, I must admit that the folding function was a misfire. However, my friends, don’t worry! Three buttons are included on these ear cups: volume up, volume down, and a power button with several functions that connects to various devices flawlessly. Additionally, there is a small USB connector for charging and a microscopic microphone so you can answer calls quickly.

This bad boy guarantees a smooth connection across numerous operating systems and devices using Bluetooth v5.2. No matter what operating system you use—iOS, Android, Windows, or even a smart TV—you won’t have any connection problems. It is simple to switch between your devices after you have synchronised your headphones with them. Pure musical enjoyment with no time spent.

Prepare yourselves because Sony has now significantly increased the stakes. Even a companion app, the Sony Headphones Connect, is included. You may customise the EQ settings in this handy little programme to suit your tastes. Do you hear a strong bass or sharp treble? They have a tonne of pre-set settings, so you’re covered. It is like to having a personal audio genius at your disposal.

Not to be overlooked is the immersive experience. The WH-CH520’s 360 Reality Audio gives you the impression that you are in the centre of the action. It’s like plunging into a magical realm of surround sound. It’s a delight for your ears, I assure you, people.

Although the audio quality is excellent, I have to concede that the noise suppression might be stronger. The audio doesn’t exactly perform to its full capacity in busy areas. However, I must give Sony credit for providing an improved music experience that still wows, especially given the headphone’s price point.

But here’s the thing. The headset has a handy DSEE function that improves the sound quality of compressed audio files. Let me be clear: while streaming music from the internet, this function has no bearing. On reputable music streaming services, though? My friends, it’s pure sonic wizardry.

Let’s now discuss aesthetics. Black, White, Blue, and Beige are just a few of the amazing colour options for this gem. With settings to fit your mood and style, it’s like a fashion show for your ears. So go ahead and stylishly sport those headphones!

Here comes the crucial time. This headphone is priced at only Rs 4,490, and it’s more than worth it. In the market for budget headphones, Sony has absolutely excelled themselves, challenging the competition. It’s possible that some people would criticise the design and wish it were more streamlined and lightweight. However, let me tell you that this little jewel is a bargain for the amount you spend. So without a second thought, get a set and discover the joy of wireless music!
