Squarespace Will Replace Google Domains After It Closes; Details Inside

Squarespace, a flexible website builder, will take over during the transition period and help companies develop their online identities in place of Google Domains, which is ceasing operations. Although some of the details of the agreement, which allowed Squarespace to buy the assets of the Google Domain, were not made public.

Over 10 million domains will be transferred to Squarespace as part of the agreement. The article states that once the sale is done, the anticipated closure of the Google Domain would start.

In a statement issued by Squarespace on Thursday, it was said that “Squarespace and Google have entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement, under which Squarespace will acquire the assets related to the Google Domains business.”

“This purchase includes about 10 million names hosted on Google names across millions of consumers. Subject to regulatory approvals and typical closing conditions, the transaction is scheduled to close in the third quarter of 2023, the statement said.

Despite the fact that the bulk of the advantages won’t be seen until 2024 and beyond, Squarespace thinks that this purchase will be significantly accretive to its company over time in terms of revenue and free cash flow.

Matt Madrigal, Google’s vice president and general manager of merchant shopping, made the announcement. We have entered into a legally binding agreement with Squarespace for the purchase of customer accounts from the Google Domains registrar company, as part of our efforts to narrow our focus.

Google said that customers who utilise DNS delegation and register domain names won’t be harmed by the switch to Squarespace on its support website. Once customers sign up as a Squarespace client, they may manage additional services (when they become available) using their management dashboard.

The corporation is working on integrating AI into several services, including Maps, Photos, Docs, Gmail, Excel, and others, in the meanwhile.
