Why did Apple remove the Android version of the Beeper app?

The recent decision by Apple to close Beeper, an app that allowed Android users to exchange texts on the iPhone via iMessage, has drawn criticism from US Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Apple claimed to have taken precautions to safeguard its customers “by blocking techniques that exploit fake credentials to gain access to iMessage” after the shutdown of Beeper Mini, an iMessage app for Android users.

The internet company was questioned by Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who supports stronger antitrust regulations, about why they limited a rival.

“Green bubble texts are less secure,” the woman questioned on X, formerly known as Twitter. So why would Apple disable a recently released program that lets Android users utilize iMessage to communicate with iPhone users?

“Big Tech executives are protecting profits by squashing competitors,” the speaker said. It should be simple and safe to chat across many platforms.
