A Look Back at Babita Kapoor’s 77th Birthday and Her Opposition to Her Family

Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor are two of the most prominent actresses in Hindi films. Many people are unaware that the two sisters, who have successfully carried on the illustrious Kapoor family history, owe their professional success to their mother, Babita Kapoor. Babita was the one who stood her ground when her husband, actor Randhir Kapoor, refused to let his children pursue careers in film, defying the family’s customs and values in order to launch her daughters.

Babita moved to the Indian side of the border during India’s division and was born in Karachi on April 20, 1947. Babita started her career in the film business when she was eighteen years old. She made her Bollywood debut in 1966 with the film Dus Lakh, which did not do well at the box office. Still, her alluring appearance attracted a lot of attention. She subsequently acted with Rajesh Khanna in the 1967 film Raj, which was well-received by critics. Babita’s career took a significant turn for the better the same year when the very popular film Farz, in which Jeetendra also starred, came out.

She married Randhir Kapoor in 1971 after falling in love with him when she was at the height of her career. But as was customary in the family, the Kapoors accepted her on the understanding that she would not perform in motion pictures after her marriage. Babita nodded and said goodbye to the cinema. Babita received her daughter Karishma in 1974 after three years of marriage, and Kareena followed in 1980.

But in the early 1980s, the marriage was in disarray. As his career was failing, Randhir Kapoor developed an alcohol problem. There were also a lot of family conflicts. Babita and her two kids left Randhir Kapoor’s home in 1987. She began preparing Karisma and Kareena for the film business, defying the Kapoor family’s edict that women could not work in the industry.

After leaving the opulent Kapoor family lifestyle, Babita raised her girls by herself, grooming them and enlisting the aid of several individuals in the film business to help Karishma get her start in movies. Pram Qaidi, a 1991 Bollywood film, marked Karisma’s screen debut. Karishma rose to prominence as the 90s’ top actress as a result. Kareena quickly followed Karisma into the film industry. Kareena began her Bollywood career in 2000 with the release of Refugee.
