Bollywood movies that, in 2023, fell short of expectations and performed poorly: Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Kangana Ranaut’s Tejas

The 2023 box office will be remembered for a few low points that left A-list celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Tiger Shroff, and Kartik Aaryan battered, despite record-breaking highs (Jawan, Animal, and Pathaan). Here is a list of some of the films that failed to make a significant profit for Bollywood studios and independent distributors in 2023, ranging from high-profile productions to more modestly cost films.

Not even Kartik Aaryan, who provided one of the greatest successes in 2022 with the horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, nor Vivek Agnihotri, whose The Kashmir Files was the first Hindi film to reach ₹250 crore post-pandemic, was immune.

Here are several highly anticipated movies that didn’t do well at the box office in 2023, listed in no particular order:

Tejas
The performance of the Kangana Ranaut movie, in which she played an Indian Air Force pilot, was not what was anticipated. After its release in October, it barely brought in ₹6.2 crore nett in India, according to a report by Sacnilk.com. Tejas, which was directed by Sarvesh Mewara, followed Air Force pilot Tejas Gill on a perilous rescue operation. Anshul Chauhan, Varun Mitra, Ashish Vidyarthi, Vishak Nair, Kashyap Shangari, Sunit Tandon, late Rio Kapadia, Mohan Agashe, and Mushtaq Kak were among the other actors who starred in the movie.

Ganapathy
Despite its release around the Dussehra holiday, Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon’s post-apocalyptic dystopian action flick did not do well at the box office. The futuristic movie brought in ₹13 crore nett in India, according to a Sacnilk.com report. Vikas Bahl, well known for Queen, wrote and directed Ganapath, which was reportedly produced on a ₹200 crore budget. In the movie, Amitabh Bachchan also played a significant part.

The War on Vaccines
Under Vivek Agnihotri’s direction, the movie had a dismal run in India. It made ₹10.33 crore net at the domestic box office, according to a Sacnilk.com report. I Am Buddha and Pallavi Joshi created The Vaccine War. On September 28, it was made available in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Key characters in the movie were played by Nana Patekar, Sapthami Gowda, Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, and Anupam Kher.

Second Chandramukhi
Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence played the key parts in Chandramukhi 2. On September 28, the movie was released in cinemas. Sacnilk.com reports that it brought in ₹39.21 crore net in India across all languages (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada). The movie was a follow-up to the hugely successful Tamil horror comedy Chandramukhi, which featured Jyothika and Rajinikanth in the main parts.

Selfie
Driving License (2019), Akshay Kumar’s Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam movie, had its worst opening weekend in ten years. Alongside Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty, and Nushrat Bharucha, the film was directed by Raj Mehta and produced by Prithviraj Productions, Dharma Productions, and Cape Of Good Films. The February release of Selfiee, which was purportedly developed with a ₹100 crore budget, brought in ₹17.03 crore net in India, according to a report by Sacnilk.com.

Shehzada
The Hindi version of Allu Arjun’s 2020 film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, directed by Kartik Aaryan, titled Shehzada, was a box office failure. According to Sacnilk.com, since its release in February, it has made ₹32 crore nett in India. Shehzada was reportedly produced on a ₹85 crore budget. Rohit Dhawan directed Shehzada. In addition to Kartik, Kriti Sanon played the main role in the movie. Important parts were also played by Paresh Rawal, Ronit Roy, Sunny Hinduja, and Manisha Koirala. After Luka Chuppi, Shehzada was Kriti and Kartik’s second joint venture.
