Russell Crowe is up for Worst Actor at the Razzie Awards, and the internet is furious

Hollywood’s award season is in full swing right now, with everyone looking forward to The Academy Awards as the big finale after last month’s glittering Golden Globes. But among the glitter and drama of these much coveted prizes, there is another honor with a different sort of significance, one that no one in the business actively pursues. Let’s talk about the Golden Raspberry Awards, also referred to as the Razzies or Razzie Awards. According to the Razzies’ official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, these awards—which come in the form of a $4.97 (approximately 413 Rupees) gold spray-painted trophy—are given to otherwise highly regarded talents who perhaps ought to have used better judgment when linking their names to inferior projects.

One of the candidates for this year’s Razzies Awards has received less than a warm reception from viewers and supporters of the nominated performers, while providing much-needed comedy to the usually stressful and nervous award season in Tinseltown.

The 2024 Razzie nomination list is now available to the public, and Expend4bles is in the top with seven nods in a variety of categories. The Exorcist: Believer, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and DC’s Shazam! are right following! Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Fury of the Gods both received many nominations.

Russell Crowe for his role in The Pope’s Exorcist, which earned him a nomination for worst actor that has sparked a strong reaction from his fans on social media, Chris Evans for Ghosted, Jennifer Lopez for The Mother, and other notable and unexpected nominees for the anti-Oscar awards this year include these three individuals.

Film reviewer Courtney Howard tweeted, “The Razzies are once again demonstrating their irrelevance,” in response to the nominations for X. Other fans chimed in, with one supporting Crowe and saying, “Crowe understood the assignment,” while another demanded that the Razzies be completely canceled.

Russell Crowe was fantastic in The Pope’s Exorcist, and the only reason the film was so enjoyable is because of him. I can’t dispute with anything else on this list of Razzie nominees. Recall it,” remarked a different enthusiast.

“Usually, I don’t pay attention to the Razzie Awards, but this year, I won’t because Russell Crowe has to be removed from consideration for The Pope’s Exorcist. He really had an impact on the short film, which is why it’s worth seeing. Another remark disagreeing with the nomination said, “He does not deserve this nomination.”

In addition, Vin Diesel for Fast X, Ana de Armas for Ghosted, Megan Fox for Johnny & Clyde, Salma Hayek and Channing Tatum for Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Michael Douglas and Bill Murray for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and other well-known actors are also nominated for Golden Raspberry Awards 2024.

The Razzies were established in 1981 with the intention of (dis)honoring the year’s least popular movies. Before ballots are sent to the membership, a select committee chooses the Razzie nominees. Anyone may become a voting member by paying an annual fee of $40 (about 3,326 Rupees) or by choosing to purchase a lifetime membership for $500 (about 41,576 Rupees).

The satirical annual Razzie Awards event, which was co-founded by UCLA cinema grads John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy, is scheduled to celebrate its 44th edition this year.
