Sanjay Kumar Singh, the NCB Director General, accepts VRS after clearing the name of Aryan Khan, the son of Shah Rukh Khan, in the drugs-on-cruise case

Only eight months before his retirement, NCB deputy director general (DDG) Sanjay Kumar Singh, who oversaw a SIT that cleared superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drug-on-cruise case, took VRS. As the DDG of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the 1996-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Odisha cadre is now in charge of the bureau’s south-west and southern areas.

In addition, he is investigating Sameer Wankhede, the former zonal director of the NCB Mumbai branch, for allegedly engaging in irregularities throughout the course of investigating two narcotics cases.

Singh informed PTI that he registered for voluntary retirement from service (VRS) on February 29 for “personal reasons only.”

His VRS will take effect on April 30. His retirement was scheduled for January 2025.
“I will continue doing the job till April 30,” he said.

In May 2022, Aryan Khan and five other individuals received a clean sheet from a special investigative team (SIT) led by Singh, who cited “lack of sufficient evidence” against them in the drugs-on-cruise case.

In October 2021, a team led by Wankhede from the NCB arrested Aryan Khan and many others in Mumbai on drug-related allegations.
