Staff at YRF Were “Sad” After a String of Failures, According to Rani Mukerji: “Pathan Stood Test of SRK”

Following a string of failures for the production company, Rani Mukerji spoke candidly about the culture inside the Yash Raj Films office. A few films that YRF released after the COVID-19 blackout did not go as well as anticipated. These featured the highly anticipated films Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor, and Samrat Prithviraj, directed by Akshay Kumar, and Bunty Aur Babli 2, starring Ranveer Singh. These movies attracted fewer viewers than anticipated when they were released in 2021 and 2022. Eventually, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan gave YRF its major break at the box office.

Rani Mukerji discussed the difficult times at a FICCI Frames event, stating that the failure of these films had left everyone at YRF depressed. According to her, Pathaan was the one who arrived and altered the studio’s strategy. It resembled total despondency. Our coworkers were depressed. Adi’s complete belief that her works would be seen in theaters We believed that he would be rewarded for his belief in releasing his pictures in theaters and that there would be supernatural intervention. According to PTI, she said, “‘Pathaan’ changed everything for Yash Raj and it became the highest-grossing film.”

“Movie creators should believe in what they create, and they should have greater trust in the product that they create. To bring about such transformation, they need to support one another. “Pathaan” endured, and it became the reason for people to go to the movies,” she said, referring to the Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster that took in more than Rs 1000 crore at the box office globally.

Additionally, she said that her husband, YRF chief Aditya Chopra, was urged to distribute his films straight onto OTT since the platform blew up amid the shutdown brought on by the epidemic. Aditya, nevertheless, persisted in releasing his movies exclusively on the big screen.

“He received a sizable payment offer to have it released on OTT. “I would not release any of these films on OTT because I believe in the power of Indian cinema and what it does theatrically,” my courageous husband said over the phone. All of those movies failed because, after the epidemic, OTT caused a sudden shift in how people watched material, according to Rani.
