When fans go crazy, a London theater stops showing Vijay “Ghilli.”

The buzz of the town is Vijay’s “Ghilli,” which was re-released after 20 years. ‘Ghilli’ has been winning the hearts of viewers worldwide, not only in Tamil Nadu.

Fans have been celebrating the 2004 Tamil release as if it were a brand-new release, turning theaters into festival arenas. The Vijay-starring movie in London was shown on a giant screen, but the crowd became rowdy and the showing was stopped in the middle.

During the renowned ‘Appadi Podu’ song, almost the whole auditorium broke into spontaneous dancing, which prompted the theater management to step in. To restore order among the ecstatic audience, the event was momentarily halted with the help of police officials. The planned showing of the film continued after a short interval.

The overwhelming reception that ‘Ghilli’ received upon its re-release in London is evidence of Vijay’s popularity there.

“Ghilli” has been doing astronomically well at the box office; in only six days after its rerelease, the movie brought in about Rs 20 crore. Since movie fans were nostalgic about seeing the masala blockbuster again, the Vijay starrer has been doing better than recent Tamil films. The first 50-crore grosser in Kollywood, “Ghilli,” is doing well and has kept the majority of its screens for the second weekend.
