When Mohammed Rafi Teared Up Singing This Neel Kamal Song

Without include the late singer Mohammed Rafi, no list of the best playback singers in the nation is complete. The legendary singer has performed songs in every genre, from upbeat dance songs like Jiya Ho Jiya Ho and Chaahein Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe to melancholy romance songs like Tumne Mujhe Dekha Hokar Meherban. It was easy to think that Mohammed Rafi may get a little overwhelmed while singing since he gave the songs he performed life. He experienced something similar when he couldn’t control his tears while performing a song for the movie Neel Kamal (1968).

Javed Akhtar gave an interview in which he explained this. “This song’s foundation was absolutely authentic for the performer. This is due to the fact that when Rafi Sa’ab came to perform this song, his daughter had already been married off. At the microphone, he was crying. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the words for the song Babul Ki Duayen Leti Ja, which was produced by Ravi. Neel Kamal was directed by Ram Maheshwari.
