When Sima Taparia, a famous Indian matchmaker, was criticized for her choice of profession

As the professional matchmaker in the Netflix series Indian Matchmaking, Sima Taparia gained notoriety. Despite its modest origins, the program swiftly gained worldwide notoriety, dominating internet TRP ratings, and sparking passionate debates. While her competence was appreciated by her fans, she was also criticized for being conservative and out-of-date. Sima Taparia has recently discussed the difficulties she encountered and the ridicule she experienced while pursuing her work as a professional matchmaker in an interview.

“I started working as a matchmaker in 2005, and the difficulties I encountered were really on my back. People teased me, saying, “Itne bade ghar ki bahu matchmaking kyun kar rahi hai (why the daughter-in-law of such a large family is getting into matchmaking),” but I didn’t know much and I didn’t see left or right, so I moved forward, focused and passionate about my work, disregarding any criticism, Sima said.

Sima’s introduction into the matching industry was regarded with skepticism, but she was able to dissuade them by constantly putting together happy couples. She spoke frankly about the inherent dangers and difficulties of arranging marriages. While most of the nuptials she helped arrange were happy ones, there were sometimes outliers. However, she is not exclusively accountable for the success of the marriage. Flexibility, trust, communication, and the support of the marriage all play crucial roles. She emphasized that her job is to help people connect, and that the final result would depend on the people involved.

Sima related an intriguing anecdote from her professional career that happened when she was living in Switzerland. The Indian couple she and her husband encountered were looking for a wife for their son. Sima used her knowledge to quickly react and take control of the situation. And she was able to arrange the match successfully in only 25 days.

Sima Taparia takes center stage while discussing the television show Indian Matchmaking, which follows her as she helps people through the complexities of arranged marriages in both the US and India. Her strategy for the program takes into account factors like education, caste, and family history. She consults her family and friends often and works closely with them to make sure the matches she arranges are actually the finest possible.
