Belly fat may result from smoking; here’s how to lose it

Smoking has long been linked to a number of health problems, most notably an increased risk of heart disease and lung cancer. But few people are aware of how smoking affects weight distribution and how much belly fat it may accumulate.
It is well known that smoking disrupts normal metabolic functions, which has an impact on the distribution of fat throughout the body.

The very addictive ingredient in cigarettes, nicotine, raises the stress hormone cortisol production, which is connected to the buildup of fat, especially around the belly. Moreover, smoking may lessen an individual’s sensitivity to insulin, which may hasten the accumulation of visceral fat around the organs. Finally, smokers often experience alterations in their sense of taste, which may lead to bad eating habits and a propensity to choose meals that are heavy in fat and calories. Smoking’s metabolic effects, together with altered eating habits, have the potential to exacerbate the accumulation of abdominal fat over time.

The most efficient method of eliminating belly fat linked to smoking is, in the words of Dr. Nikhil Agnihotri, Senior Consultant, Minimal Access Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi, “kicking the butt entirely.” People may reduce their risk of belly gain by stopping smoking, which has detrimental impacts on hormone control, metabolism, and other areas. In addition to abstaining from smoking, prioritize eating a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains; reduce your intake of processed foods, sugar-filled snacks, and excessive alcohol. This strategy encourages total weight loss, including decreases in belly fat, and helps control calorie consumption.

To increase metabolism and gain muscle, engage in regular physical activity that combines aerobic exercises, such as jogging, with strength training. To tone the abdominal area, try to get in at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise combined with core-focused exercises. In addition, control your stress levels by engaging in deep breathing techniques, yoga, and meditation to maintain cortisol levels. Additionally, give your sleep top priority since it’s crucial for lowering belly fat and keeping a healthy weight.
