How Can I Tell Whether I’m Depressed? Physician Enumerates Indications of Depression

Of all the mental illnesses, depression is one that a lot of individuals suffer from in silence. It’s a general word for a prevalent medical disease that has a detrimental impact on your feelings, thoughts, and actions in many contexts. A continuous sense of melancholy, loneliness, unpleasant thoughts, and interest loss are symptoms of depression.

Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness, angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over minor issues, loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, like sex, hobbies, or sports, sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much, tiredness and lack of energy, making even small tasks require extra effort, cravings for food that increase weight gain or decrease appetite, anxiety, agitation or restlessness, and slowed speech, thinking, or body movements are some common symptoms of depression.

It’s critical to comprehend the symptoms in order to diagnose depression. Mimansa Singh Tanwar, a clinical psychologist and the head of the Fortis School Mental Health Program at the Fortis National Mental Health Program, explained to Jagran English that depression is a medical condition that impairs a person’s ability to function on a daily basis, affecting their social, occupational, and other aspects of their lives.

You may be suffering from depression if you have been depressed for at least two weeks and have experienced symptoms like persistent sadness, loss of interest in or enjoyment from previously enjoyed activities, feelings of worthlessness and helplessness, social withdrawal, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, fatigue and exhaustion easily, and thoughts of death or futility towards life.

Dr. Tanwar says that if you, a loved one, or a coworker are exhibiting these symptoms, it’s critical to identify them and get assistance in a timely manner. Both psychotherapy and medication have a place in the therapeutic process. Don’t forget to speak out and unmute yourself.
