On World Obesity Day, let’s fight obesity with action!

On the World Obesity Day webpage of the World Obesity Federation, there is a warning that by 2035, there will be 1.9 billion obese individuals globally, with pediatric obesity expected to quadruple.

Due to these alarming figures, obesity has emerged as a worldwide issue, leading to the annual World Obesity Day celebration on March 4th. The purpose of this day is to increase public awareness of obesity’s hazards, causes, and effects on quality of life. Overweight is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a BMI more than 25, and obesity as a BMI greater than 30. Here are some safety measures you may use to effectively fight obesity.

1. Reduce Your Salt Consumption
Because salt retains water, consuming too much of it is often linked to weight gain. Ultra-processed, high-sodium meals raise the risk of high blood pressure and cardiovascular problems in addition to causing weight gain. The WHO advises against consuming more than 5 grams of salt each day.

2. Begin Small When Losing Weight
Gaining weight doesn’t happen quickly. Research indicates that an individual typically accumulates around 6.5 kg during a six-month period, or 1 kg per month. Experts advise starting your weight reduction journey as soon as possible rather than waiting until things become very bad.

3. Put Lifestyle First
Your lifestyle has a big impact on how your health turns out. Stress from a 9–5 work, along with sedentary lifestyle and a diet high in carbohydrates and trans fats, may cause a number of health problems, such as joint discomfort and cardiovascular illnesses. Make healthy eating a priority, and make time for physical exercise each day. Some ideas for this include walking after dinner or using the stairs rather than the elevator.

4. Preserve Your Gut Health
There is a connection between intestinal health and obesity. Your gut biome, which is essential for energy absorption, food digestion, hunger management, fat storage, and inflammation, affects how your body reacts to certain meals. Add probiotics to your diet to help maintain intestinal health.
