A passenger bus and a gasoline truck crash in southern Afghanistan, leaving 21 people killed and 38 wounded

A provincial traffic agency reported that at least 21 persons were killed and 38 wounded in a traffic accident that occurred in southern Afghanistan.

According to a statement from the department in Helmand, the accident happened on Sunday morning in the Gerashk area of the province. It happened on the key route that connects the western Herat province with the southern Kandahar province.

A motorcycle collided with a passenger bus, which struck a gasoline tanker across the street, according to Qadratullah, a Helmand traffic officer. He also said that an inquiry into the accident was under progress.

A spokesperson for the head of the Helmand police department, Hzatullah Haqqani, said that eleven of the 38 wounded individuals had critical injuries and were sent to hospitals.

Afghanistan has a high rate of traffic accidents, mostly as a result of bad road conditions and irresponsible driving.
