After Qin Gang was fired, Blinken anticipates working well with Wang Yi, the new Chinese foreign minister

Following the unexpected removal of the former foreign minister, Qin Gang, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that he anticipates “working well” with China’s incoming foreign minister. I’ve known Wang Yi for more than ten years as well. In relation to the new top diplomat, Blinken remarked, “I’ve met with him many times. As we have in the past, “I anticipate working well with him.”

“It’s crucial that we handle this connection sensibly. That begins with engagement and diplomacy, and I will cooperate with whatever the appropriate Chinese counterpart is.

Qin has not been seen in public since June 25, according to Blinken, who said that it was China’s “sovereign decision” to remove him. He has been taken out of the public eye without an official explanation.

The ambassador to Washington was Qin Gang. He and I met while he was ambassador. As his foreign minister, I had enlightening discussions with him, and I send him my best wishes,” Blinken added.

Qin’s disappearance had triggered a flurry of rumors that the 57-year-old, who was regarded as President Xi Jinping’s confidant, had lost favor or was the focus of an official probe.
