As a trailblazer in the industry, Shree Ramkrishna Exports achieves net zero for its diamond-making facilities

May 10, Surat, Gujarat, India: Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. (SRK), a well-known natural diamond craftsman worldwide, revealed today a groundbreaking accomplishment in the fight against emissions. In 2030, SRK House and SRK Empire, its two flagship crafting facilities, were supposed to achieve net zero emissions. However, in collaboration with the Global Network for Zero (GNFZ), the world’s leading net zero certification organization, SRK accelerated this aim to 2024.

During the first-ever SRK Sustainability Conclave last year, which highlighted SRK’s six decades of influence in disaster relief operations, healthcare, education, community development, environmental preservation, and more, the business announced its intention to accelerate. Founder and Chairman Shri Govind Dholakia presented SRK’s extensive plan for eliminating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions at the conference. Additionally, he announced the launch of SRK’s first Pure Impact Report, which provides a thorough overview of the business’s sixty-year dedication to promoting ESG, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and a roadmap for what the leader called the “crown jewel” of its future endeavors: decarbonizing operations and taking a leading role in the establishment of a net-zero India and global community.

SRK House and SRK Empire are two of the best-performing LEED-certified buildings in the world now, with an initial completion date of 2030 for each structure. But after collaborating with GNFZ, a ground-breaking new net zero certification organization founded by Mahesh Ramanujam, the former CEO and president of the U.S. Green Building Council, SRK was able to develop an implementation plan and expedite a 2024 delivery date for the net zero certification of both buildings.

“As the top supplier of natural diamonds, we believe it is our duty to decarbonize our industry and serve as a model for other Indian businesses pursuing more environmentally friendly practices. That is why we partnered with GNFZ,” said Shri Govind Dholakia.

Dholakia adds that India has a national net zero objective by 2070 and that these factors, together with a feeling of urgency and responsibility, influence his decision-making. At SRK, we think that this timescale has to be sped up for everyone’s survival and improvement, and that Indian business leaders may be crucial to the country’s progress. I was aware that we would have the opportunity to set an example by accelerating to 2024. The fact that we exceeded our annual deadline allows us to repeat our change across our operations on a larger scale.

Installing an off-site 6 MW solar power plant to mitigate all of SRK’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions is one of the strategies the company has used at its facilities to meet the requirements for GNFZ certification. For Scope 3, the company has converted all of its cars to electric vehicles, installed solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations, developed an app to track employee daily commute modes and practices, and planted trees over a 200-acre land area. They will also work toward obtaining net zero certifications for energy, waste, and water, as well as GNFZ’s net zero certification for businesses, as they proceed with their decarbonization efforts.

With regard to the net zero frontier in India, Ramanujam thinks that SRK’s dedication to acceleration is a promising sign: “Under the direction of Shri Govind Dholakia, SRK has been able to harness our process and methodology to accelerate their targets in record time. They are thereby clearing the path for other Indian corporate executives to use alliances and decarbonize operations in a manner that safeguards people, the environment, and the mission.

With this accreditation, SRK is demonstrating its unwavering dedication to achieving and maintaining a zero-emission future. Furthermore, SRK’s innovative decarbonization efforts serve as a signal to the Indian business community and the diamond industry in India. The GFNZ team is committed to continuously observing the company’s data, validating its net zero accomplishments, and guaranteeing that it maintains its exceptional zero emissions performance.
