Amid royal unrest, Prince Harry officially became an American and severed his ties to his British heritage

Since leaving his royal responsibilities in 2020 to live in California with bride Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has formally declared the United States to be his “new country.” This action seems to emphasize his increasing distance from his family.

In revised documentation, the Duke of Sussex renounced his position as a resident of Britain and said that America is now his “New Country/State Usually Resident,” updating his nation of residence.

The UK-based Daily Mail said that this modification was disclosed in records submitted to Britain’s Companies House for his eco-tourism business, Travalyst.

Prince Harry placed June 29, 2023, as the “date of change” on the forms, despite the fact that they were submitted on Wednesday. This is the day when he and Meghan formally left their British home, Frogmore Cottage. At his father King Charles’ desire, the land that the late Queen Elizabeth had bequeathed to them during their 2018 wedding was abandoned.

It’s yet unknown how the Duke’s decision to give up his British residence would affect any of his titles.

Harry said that he still considered the UK to be his home at a court hearing in December of last year, despite the legal shift. He said that safety concerns were the reason he felt “forced” to go to the US.

“I live in the United Kingdom. My children’s ancestry is heavily rooted in the UK, and I want them to feel as at home there as they do in the US, where they now reside. During his legal battle for taxpayer-funded police protection, the duke said in a written declaration read in court in London, “That cannot happen if it is not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.” But the offer was turned down.

Known as “Megxit,” Prince Harry, the youngest son of King Charles, moved to the United States four years ago with his wife Meghan after resigning from all royal responsibilities. They now live in Montecito, California, with their two children, Princess Lilibet, age two, and Prince Archie, age four.
