“Beyond Disappointed, Horrified”: Actresses Who Filed Assault Claims Against Harvey Weinstein React To Court Decision

Los Angeles: The overturning of Harvey Weinstein’s conviction for sex crimes in New York shocked and infuriated Hollywood stars, including many women who have accused the former movie mogul of assault.
As the highest court in the city overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction for rape and sexual assault on Thursday, Rosanna Arquette, Ashley Judd, and Mira Sorvino were among those who voiced their opinions.

Weinstein has been ordered to stand trial again in New York. Weinstein is now serving a second 16-year term for rape that was given in California.

The following are some significant responses to the decision to reverse one of the pivotal instances in the #MeToo movement:

“Harvey received a just conviction. The fact that the court reversed his conviction is regrettable. “As a survivor, I am incredibly disheartened,” actress and Weinstein accuser Rosanna Arquette said to The Hollywood Reporter.

It is unjust to the survivors. We are true to who we are. Ashley Judd was the first actress to publicly address her charges against Harvey Weinstein on Instagram, saying, “We know what happened.”

“Ghastly!Since when do courts not permit the admission of evidence showing a pattern of previous wrongdoing? He is a serial predator who has raped and injured over 200 women! “Disturbed by the way the justice system favors predators over victims,” actress and Weinstein accuser Mira Sorvino said on social networking site X.

“Awoke to this information. Actress and Weinstein accuser Katherine Kendall posted on Instagram, saying, “I feel more than ever how important it is to keep breaking silence about sexual predators and to support victims as they speak out.”

“Survivors’ interests are not being adequately protected by the courts or the judicial system, which continues to be a persistent problem. Alvin Bragg, the district attorney for Manhattan, entered the race for office in 2021 because his predecessor let so many people down. Weinstein’s accuser and model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez said via X that “we expect him to pursue Weinstein now.”

“Let this be a reminder how rigged the American judicial system is against women and survivors of sexual violence, and what it takes to ‘prove’ your truth in this world” — Amber Tamblyn, an actress, on Instagram.

“They are never going to change who we are. “Grateful to everyone who offered their utmost #spirit #courage #unity”—the actress and Weinstein accuser Rose McGowan on Instagram.

“(T)his is a stark reminder that the criminal justice system is not set up to serve actual justice and that anyone insisting that’me too is over’ or ‘has gone too far’ needs to look at the actual state of the world”—in an email, actress and Weinstein accuser Sarah Ann Masse wrote.
