Officials at the Tampa facility reported seeing the almost 10-foot reptile Monday morning next to the landing gear of a KC-135 aerial refueling plane. Not long after that, the Hillsborough River was re-stocked with the animal when officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called to the scene.

The gator is seen flailing about and attempting to escape as two cops attempt to apprehend it in a video that has gone viral online. Despite the police’ best efforts, the alligator wriggles and fights off their attempts to wrap its leashes around its midsection. The animal was ultimately hauled off the pavement after some resistance.

The alligator was taken off base to a more appropriate location after being captured, according to MacDill Air Force Base. A heartfelt “thank you” to FWC for their assistance. The Tampa-based FOX 13 reports that Elvis, an even larger gator, is a frequent visitor to the region.

Alligators are abundant in Florida, US, and may be seen often in the state’s many lakes, marshes, and wetlands. According to the website of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, there are about 1.3 million alligators in the state of Florida.

As alligators begin their mating season in April, wildlife authorities warn that the animals are more prone to go into unknown areas.

Apex predators, American alligators prey on tiny animals, birds, reptiles, and fish. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission states that alligators may be found between North Carolina and Florida to the east, and from southeast Texas and Oklahoma to the west.
