China asserts that the augmentation of Indian forces will not alleviate tensions

In the heart of Beijing, it is opined by Chinese authorities that India’s decision to augment its military presence along the contested border is deemed “counterproductive to the amelioration of tensions,” articulated a spokesperson from the foreign ministry on Friday.

Reports indicate that India has mobilized a contingent of 10,000 soldiers, hitherto stationed at its western border, to fortify its disputed border with China.

According to disclosures made on February 21 by The Times of India, the Uttar Bharat (UB) Area, situated in Bareilly and predominantly configured as a static formation primed for administrative, training, and peacetime endeavors, is slated for metamorphosis into a comprehensive corps. This transition encompasses the incorporation of supplementary infantry, artillery, aviation, air defense, and engineering brigades.

Insiders reveal that the military aspires for the UB Area to evolve into an operational corps entrusted with safeguarding the central sector of the 3,488-km line of actual control (LAC).

Expressing a steadfast commitment to collaboration with India in the preservation of peace, both nations have hitherto concurred on sustaining dialogue via military and diplomatic avenues. Recent deliberations have revolved around the resolution of border disputes, particularly in the western precinct of the China-India border.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, avowed China’s unwavering dedication to partnering with India in the preservation of tranquility and stability along the border regions. Nonetheless, Mao expressed reservations regarding India’s recent actions, contending that they neither foster peace nor mitigate tensions.

Furthermore, Mao remarked that India’s escalation of military deployments in border regions fails to assuage the situation or uphold peace and security in these areas.

To date, China has rebuffed India’s entreaties for troop disengagement from the remaining significant confrontations at the Depsang Plains and the Charding Ninglung Nallah track junction in Ladakh. Despite twenty rounds of corps commander-level discussions, China remains disinclined to revert to the status quo. The clashes in Galwan in mid-2020 resulted in casualties on both sides, prompting both militaries to reinforce positions and deploy troops and equipment in the area over recent years.
