Dismissal of Lawsuit Against Anti-Hate Group Reversed by Elon Musk’s X Corp
San Francisco: X, Elon Musk’s legal entity, has appealed the rejection of its lawsuit against the charity Center for Countering Digital Hate. The center had accused Musk of allowing hate speech to flourish on Twitter, his previous name.
On Tuesday, X took the necessary steps to send an appeal notice to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
San Francisco U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer rejected X’s lawsuit on March 25, stating that it was “evident” that X sued CCDH in an effort to punish and quiet opponents.
Musk has always presented himself as an ally of free speech, but X said that CCDH was losing tens of millions of dollars in advertising income due to its study.
In 2022, Musk paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter. In addition to running the electric vehicle business Tesla, he is ranked as the third-wealthiest person in the world by Forbes magazine. It may take three months or more for the appeal to be finalized.
