Earthquake in Richland, Washington: Kennewick, Tri-Cities, and Olympia Experienced Tremors

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that Richland, Washington, had an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on Friday night. There were tremors in Olympia, Tri-Cities, and Kennewick. At 9:18 p.m., an earthquake with a shallow depth of eight miles impacted Washington. Since a 3.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Pasco in 1975, the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) reports that this is the first significant earthquake to occur inside the Tri-Cities.

The website Volcano Discovery, which monitors earthquakes, has received many reports of vibrations.

“For a few seconds, the house rocked. A single set of windows shook as if someone had kicked them. It sounded like a strong wind blast. There is no harm and no damage in the surrounding area. Numerous locals claimed to have felt the earthquake as well. didn’t realize it was an earthquake until a random Google search for “earthquake Washington” turned up,” a resident of Richland wrote.

According to a another Richland resident, “I was lying on my bed. Believed the dog had collapsed against the bed’s foot and discovered it wasn’t in the room. Then it occurred to him that maybe someone had entered the home via the basement door, necessitating a forceful slam. Was rather perplexed. In the room of my daughter, something dropped on the floor. didn’t make the connection until I discovered there had been an earthquake.”

“My upstairs room started shaking back and forth suddenly,” a Kennewick resident reported. Something sounded like a heavy rumble. However, the tremor was not felt by my family from downstairs. However, the whole upper room trembled. It was, in my opinion, quite mild shaking, maybe a little bit more than that. However, it’s not quite moderate.”
