‘Felt like treachery,’ yet Gen. Bajwa’s status as Pakistan Army leader was not disclosed: Imran Khan

According to a media source, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, said on Saturday that he did not de-notify former Army leader Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa despite the fact that his acts during the PTI government’s removal in 2022 “felt like a betrayal.”

The opposition’s no-confidence vote forced Khan, 71, from office in April 2022. Khan had accused Gen. Bajwa of being a key player in the opposition’s campaign against his administration.

In a casual meeting with media during the Toshakhana reference hearing in Adiala Jail, Khan stated: “We [the then PTI government] did not call a committee to confront General Bajwa, even though his actions felt like a betrayal.”

Khan reiterated throughout the discussion the need for talks for the sake of the nation.

“Persuade me to engage in discussions since it would benefit Pakistan. After our administration was overthrown, if I could have two meetings with Gen. Qamar Bajwa, I could meet anybody. It’s about Pakistan right now, not about me,” he said.

Although Khan said he had the option to de-notify General Bajwa in spite of his “betrayal,” he decided against it because he did not want to face the Pakistan Army.

In connection to the Toshakhana case, the former prime minister said that he and his spouse Bushra Bibi were found guilty by asserting that the gold set was worth Rs 3 billion, but its actual value was Rs 18 million.

He said that he will bring legal action in this respect against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief and prosecution witness Inam Shah.

Khan claimed to have been alerted of corruption inside the Sharif family and their purchase of automobiles from Toshakhana by General Bajwa and the previous head of the espionage service, General Faiz Hameed (Retd).

The PTI founder did, however, state that their cases are not being pursued.

The wife of former prime minister Imran Khan said in the media interview that her meal had floor cleaner put to it.

“I am experiencing swelling in the eyes, discomfort in the chest and stomach, as well as a bitter taste in food and water,” she said.
