Four people are harmed in an axe assault on customers at Chinese eateries in Auckland

A guy reportedly assaulted patrons at numerous Chinese restaurants in Auckland while brandishing an axe, according to New Zealand police, who also reported that the suspect was apprehended at the site. At least four people were hurt, they said.

According to the BBC, assaults at the Zhangliang Malatang, Yues Dumpling Kitchen, and Maya Hotpot restaurants were reported to the police late on Monday night from Albany, a popular city suburb for eating.

The guy entered the restaurant without notice, according to a staff member, and then “took a hammer-like thing out and attacked people sitting at a table,” while a cook described the scene as “like a war zone” afterward.

The suspect, a Chinese citizen, was reportedly also accused of inflicting serious bodily injury.

It went on to say that the assault did not seem to have been motivated by race and was being handled as a single occurrence.

Police chief Inspector Stefan Saga said, “We acknowledge how frightening this incident was for those involved, as well as for the larger community, and we are ensuring there is support in place for both the victims, as well as their friends and family.”
