Indian student stabbed to death in US gym

Varun Raj Pucha, 24, an Indian student at Valparaiso University studying computer science, lost his life in a terrible event on Wednesday in Indiana. On October 29, the Indian student was fatally stabbed during a stabbing incident that happened at a gym.

The attacker, a 24-year-old man named Jordan Andrade, is accused with attempted murder and severe violence. Remarkably, Andrade said that Varun threatened him, saying he thought Varun was going to hurt him.

According to Andrade’s version of events, there was no prior interaction between the two before the assault. He went into the massage area of the gym and saw Varun, who was unfamiliar to him, however he thought Varun looked kind of weird. Andrade said that Varun had threatened him, which is what prompted him to act in self-defense.

Andrade claims that Varun stayed seated the whole time the argument was going on and didn’t make any physical contact until Andrade started attacking. Varun was physically smaller, according to Andrade, a former high school football powerhouse who could bench press 260 pounds. He presented himself as a “defensive fighter,” one who would use a knife to take out an opponent he considered to be a danger.

Andrade gave an evasive answer when asked for further information on the assault, saying, “Uh, I just put it through.” He acknowledged taking the knife out of his pocket—a device he usually used to open boxes at Menards, where he worked.

The Valparaiso University community is very saddened by the loss of Indian student Varun Raj Pucha in the gym. The university has sent its sympathies to Varun’s family and friends. Investigations into the facts surrounding this terrible tragedy are still ongoing, and the case has brought up issues about claims of self-defense and the need of a complete analysis of what happened on that fatal day.
