Israeli Minister Is Suspended by Netanyahu for “Nuking Gaza” Remark, Declaring It to Be “Not Based in Reality”

Hours after his statements about “nuking Gaza” sparked outrage, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu removed Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu from all government meetings for an undetermined period of time. Netanyahu’s office distanced itself from the extreme stance and said that Israel and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are adhering to the strictest international law in order to prevent injuring innocent people.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: There is no truth to Minister Amihai Eliyahu’s claims. To prevent hurting innocent people, Israel and the IDF are acting in compliance with the strictest international legal norms. In a statement, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office declared, “We will keep doing this until we win.

“IT’S ONE OPTION.”

According to Israeli sources, 1,400 people died in the assault on October 7. The health ministry operated by Hamas claims that 9,488 individuals have died as a result of Israel’s military operation in Gaza since October 7. The Israeli minister was questioned about launching “some kind of atomic bomb” on the Gaza Strip “to kill everyone” during a radio broadcast. Eliyahu said, “That’s one option,” to this. Later on, Eliyahu recanted his “metaphorical” statement.

According to The Times of Israel, he has previously denounced humanitarian help to the Gaza Strip and referred to its citizens as “Nazis.” Additionally, the far-right minister in Netanyahu’s cabinet said that unassociated people in the Gaza Strip “no such thing.” Opposition leader Yair Lapid had also denounced Eliyahu’s absurd idea that firing a nuclear weapon on the Gaza Strip is a possibility before Eliyahu was sacked. “A horrifying and insane remark by an irresponsible minister,” was how he described the remarks.

According to Lapid, “He offended Israeli society, the families of the captives, and our international standing.” “Netanyahu needs to fire him this morning because the extremists’ presence in the government puts us and the war’s objectives—beating Hamas and freeing the hostages—in jeopardy.” Yoav Gallant, the Israeli minister of defense, also reacted on X, labeling Eliyahu’s claims as “baseless.” “It’s good that these aren’t the people in charge of Israel’s security,” he said.
