Large-scale Lahore demonstration against Israeli bombing of Gaza is led by Jamaat-E-Islami

Tens of thousands of members of the major religious political party in Pakistan came together in Lahore to demonstrate their opposition to Israel’s recent airstrikes of Gaza in a powerful show of solidarity. According to PTI, the emotionally charged group, which included women and children, marched for many kilometers while waving banners and posters criticizing Israel and the US while demonstrating sympathy for the Palestinian people.

The demonstration took a fierce turn as protesters shouted anti-Israel and anti-American statements and emphasized the need for group action to confront what they saw as the international community’s failure to defend Gazans. They also called for jihad. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chairman senator Sirajul Haq expressed that the current international demonstrations in favor of Palestinians act as a wake-up call to governments around the globe, giving voice to the voiceless.

Senator Haq said that words alone are inadequate to refute the effectiveness of resolutions and statements released by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation. He emphasized the necessity for swift action to defend the weak and asked Muslim authorities to stand up and take bold measures to stop the onslaught. The demonstration in Lahore comes after similar large-scale events that JI arranged earlier this month in Islamabad and Karachi, highlighting the general concern and need for action on the matter.
