Members of the European Parliament mistakenly go to Disneyland Paris instead of Strasbourg

Following a train signaling malfunction, hundreds of members of the European Parliament (MEP) and workers who were traveling from Brussels to Strasbourg, France, wound themselves at Disneyland Paris by mistake, according to reports in the media on Tuesday.

The MEPs travel between the seats of the parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg on a special train that is chartered once a month, according to the BBC.

In response to the gaffe on Monday, one MEP tweeted: “We are NOT a Mickey Mouse parliament.”

While some attempted to make light of the mishap, others emphasized the need of staying in Belgium rather than going to the city in northeastern France in order to do business.

“Could a brand-new Disneyland be a suitable use for the Strasbourg buildings?” questioned Pelle Geertsen, a press assistant for a Danish MEP, on the possibility of the European Parliament relocating permanently to Brussels.

The stopover was just 45 minutes, which was not enough time for the MEPs and their assistants to try out the attractions, according to the BBC.
