Nikki Haley easily defeats Trump in the Dixville Notch primary in New Hampshire, garnering all six votes

With six votes, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley defeated all other contenders, including former President Donald Trump, in the Dixville Notch midnight primary in New Hampshire.

In the first round of the New Hampshire primary, Haley was selected by each of the six Dixville Notch registered voters.

Moments after the vote was counted, India-American presidential contender Haley released a statement titled “A great start to a great day in New Hampshire.” “I’m grateful, Dixville Notch!”

Along with four registered Republicans and two independents, Trump was the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, but he did not earn enough votes to win.

During the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary in 2024, the resort town cast the nation’s first vote. Dixville Notch has conducted first-in-the-nation elections since 1960, with results announced shortly after midnight.

Trump lost the 2016 Dixville Notch primary to Ohio Governor John Kasich by a margin of three votes to two; nevertheless, Trump went on to win the primary by a margin of 19 percentage points over the Buckeye State.

Trump claims Nikki Haley is not qualified to be his vice president.
Trump has dismissed the notion of selecting Haley as his running partner, claiming that she is not qualified for the position.

“She is hardly presidential material, but she is OK. At a Concord rally on Friday, Trump said, “And when I say that, that probably means she is not going to be chosen as the vice president,” according to The Hill.

Do you know how certain things kind of pull people out of the game when you say them? “I can’t declare, ‘She’s not qualified to be the vice president,’ and then proceed to declare, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I’m delighted to announce that I’ve chosen,'” Trump said.

Haley’s meteoric rise in the Republican field—her poll ratings have been consistently increasing over the last few months—has fueled speculation that she may challenge Trump for the second spot.

Haley has repeatedly said she does not want to come second in the Republican primary, but she has previously held back from saying for sure whether she would support the former president as his running mate. Right now, Haley is Trump’s closest rival according to the New Hampshire surveys.

The 77-year-old front-runner for the Republican nomination has been attacking Haley personally lately, including spreading a fake “birther” hoax.

Haley’s parents are Sikh immigrants from Punjab who immigrated to Bamberg. She was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa and has held the office of governor of South Carolina twice.
