Surprisingly, Gen Z supports Donald Trump

NEW DELHI: A poll has shown that young individuals, as opposed to other age groups, have a much higher approval rating for former US President Donald Trump. With almost 2,000 registered voters, the Harvard CAPS–Harris survey found that 41% of respondents disapproved of the Republican’s presidential performance, while 57% of respondents approved.

Furthermore, according to the research, a sizable percentage of voters in Generation Z, or those between the ages of 18 and 24, (64 percent), said they approved of Trump’s administration.

Interestingly, from 2017 to 2021, some of these young voters were still in elementary school.
This trend might be problematic for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, according to a Newsweek article. This is particularly true given the significant impact that young voters had on his win in 2020. According to Pew Research Center research, Biden previously had high support among Generation Z and millennials over Trump, which helped to drive record attendance.

According to the Harvard CAPS–Harris study, those in the 55 to 64 age range had the second-highest level of approval for Trump (60 percent), closely followed by those in the 25 to 34 and 35 to 44 age categories (both at 58 percent).
Meanwhile, a study conducted by Axios and Generation Lab indicates that voters between the ages of 18 and 34 are closely divided between Biden and Trump, with 52% of them supporting Biden and 48% leaning toward Trump.
Political scientist Neil O’Brian hinted at possible changes in young voters’ political allegiances and voiced doubt about their continued support for the Democratic Party, according to the Newsweek article.

In spite of several legal obstacles, Trump leads Biden in the projected 2024 presidential contest, according to the Harvard CAPS–Harris poll. In a straight-up contest, Trump leads by six points, and in scenarios with many candidates, he stays ahead.
Notwithstanding these indications, the majority of Americans (56%) think that Trump has committed crimes, and 54% think that the criminal investigations against him are motivated by politics. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 91 felony counts, rejecting all of the accusations, and his trials are still ongoing.
Moreover, more than 50% of people believe that Trump engaged in revolt against the US government. The Supreme Court is considering whether Trump’s acts violate the Fourteenth Amendment and bar him from running for office in the future.
These results, which were derived from the Harvard CAPS–Harris poll that was carried out on February 21 and 22, show that younger voters’ support patterns are surprising and that the political environment is complicated.
