The foreign minister of Ukraine arrives in New Delhi with the intention of strengthening ties with Russia, its adversary

Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday on a two-day visit with the goal of enhancing bilateral cooperation with India, a country that Russia’s longtime rival.

According to a statement from the External Affairs Ministry, Kuleba will meet with the deputy national security adviser and his Indian counterpart, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on Friday. Kuleba will honor Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat memorial site on Thursday.

“At the request of @DrSJaishankar, I started my visitation to New Delhi. We shall be reviving relations and valuing the partnership between India and Ukraine. We will give special emphasis to the Peace Formula, building on the conversation between @ZelenskyyUa and @NarendraModi, Kuleba said in a post on X.

A week has passed since Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had conversations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on the social media platform X on March 20, Prime Minister Modi said that he had conveyed to Zelenskyy “India’s consistent support for all efforts for peace and bringing in an early end to the ongoing conflict,” and that India will keep up its humanitarian assistance. This happened subsequent to Modi congratulating Putin on his reelection to the presidency.

WORLD PEACE SUMMIT
The two leaders decided to continue develop their connection over the phone, and Modi reaffirmed that the best course of action for the Russia-Ukraine conflict was discussion and peace. Zelenskyy said he urged India to take part in the Peace Summit that Switzerland has volunteered to host during his phone conversation with Modi last week. In a post on X, the president of Ukraine said, “Ukraine is interested in strengthening our trade and economic ties with India, particularly in agricultural exports, aviation cooperation, and pharmaceutical and industrial product trade.”

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Wednesday that India’s stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been that a solution cannot be found on the battlefield and that New Delhi wants to find a means to put this war to an end. This was stated a day before the Ukrainian foreign minister’s visit to India. In response to a query about India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Jaishankar said that “no winners of a conflict” during his meeting with the Indian community in this capital of Malaysia.

“We have always maintained that a resolution to this dispute will not be found on the battlefield,” he said.
