Argentine diplomats are expelled from Colombia due to Milei’s “terrorist” remarks

President Javier Milei labeled his Colombian colleague Gustavo Petro a “terrorist” and “murderer,” and on Wednesday, Colombia announced that it had ordered the expulsion of Argentine diplomats.

Milei’s “denigrating” comments, which she made in an interview with CNN that hasn’t been fully broadcast, were mentioned by Colombia’s foreign ministry.

The ministry released a statement saying, “The Argentine president’s remarks have deteriorated the trust of our nation, in addition to offending the dignity of President Petro, who was democratically elected.”

Libertarian leader Milei has made news since entering office in December because of his divisive remarks. In a lecture to high school students in March, for example, he compared abortion to murder.

The number of expulsed ambassadors was not disclosed by Colombia’s foreign ministry, but it was said that Argentina will be informed of the decision via “diplomatic channels.”

Although they have always been steady, ties between Argentina and Colombia have been stronger during Milei’s leadership.

Colombia summoned its envoy from Argentina back in January after Milei’s description of left-leaning Petro as a “murderous communist who is sinking Colombia.”
