UNICEF Worries About ‘Man-Made’ Tragedy Among Children’s Deaths in Gaza During Israel-Hamas Conflict

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed worry on Sunday about the barriers to helping reach Gaza, stating that the terrible deaths of children in Palestinian territory are fully avoidable, foreseeable, and caused by human activity.

“As hunger wreaks havoc over the Gaza Strip, the child fatalities we anticipated are finally here. According to reports, at least 10 children have recently passed away at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Northern Gaza Strip from malnourishment and dehydration. Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, made this announcement in a statement on March 3.

According to Khodr, there are probably more kids battling for their lives in one of the few hospitals that still exist in Gaza, and there are probably many more kids in the north who can’t get any treatment at all. She said, “Man-made, predictable, and completely preventable are the causes of these tragic and horrific deaths.”

In the midst of Israel’s conflict with Hamas, the UNICEF representative issued a severe warning about the worsening humanitarian situation in the area. She emphasized the grave implications of pervasive shortages of basic supplies, including food, water, and healthcare, especially in the northern Gaza Strip.

The differences in the availability of relief between the north and south, according to her, highlight the critical need for unhindered access to humanitarian supplies. This warning is given in response to malnutrition screenings carried out by UN agencies, which show concerning rates of severe malnourishment among children under the age of two, with much greater numbers in regions where help is restricted.

Khodr emphasized that if quick action is not taken, there is a serious risk of a sharp rise in child fatalities. The situation has reached a critical stage. She brought attention to the suffering endured by parents and medical professionals who see avoidable tragedies occur as a result of unavailable life-saving assistance.
