Why do family members in Israel want to get sperm from the deceased and fallen?

1,300 people were murdered in the heinous Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, including infants, their mothers, and their dads. Many of those killed in the attack by Palestinian terrorists were young males, both military and civilians. In order to undertake postmortem sperm retrieval (PSR), family members of those young soldiers—and in some instances, civilians as well—have been rushing to embryologists and IVF experts.

A story in an Israeli English newspaper claims that numerous embryologists and IVF experts have reported receiving calls from relatives of Hamas assault victims asking PSR treatment for their loved ones.

To ensure that their loved ones’ legacy lives on, the family members wish to freeze the sperm of their deceased loved ones in the hopes that they would one day be utilized to create a child.

After death, the PSR process is carried out within 24 hours. If the individual wasn’t married, it may be done in accordance with Israeli regulations after a family court judgment. If a guy is married, PSR may be done with his wife’s request following the required papers.

The sperm retrieval technique is often carried out on healthy males in order to preserve their sperm for use in the event that they later decide to have a family with their female partner.

Additionally, sperm may be obtained from sick men who wish to preserve their eggs ahead of getting operations or other fertility-altering medical care. However, for medical professionals, doing PSR on the deceased may be difficult and emotionally taxing.

More than 1,500 Hamas terrorists raided at least 20 Israeli villages close to the Gaza border on October 7 and murdered residents by going door to house. In reaction to the assault, Israel promised to destroy Hamas completely and launched a war against the Palestinian organization.

The Israeli fighter aircraft’ retaliatory airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of more than 1,100 Palestinians, and the nation is now preparing for a full-scale ground invasion of the Gaza Strip to dismantle the intricate network of tunnels and shelters employed by Hamas.
