Hundreds of thousands of people reportedly saw Mukhtar Ansari’s “Janaza” (funeral procession) and participated in his funeral prayers before he was buried in his ancestral grave at the Kalibagh cemetery in Ghazipur.

In order to avert any law and order crisis, district officials had deployed police and paramilitary personnel around Ansari’s hometown of Ghazipur and imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Ansari’s corpse was transferred early on Saturday morning to the family’s ancestral cemetery, which is located around 0.5 km from their home and was excavated on Friday. According to officials, complex security measures were put in place outside Ansari’s home and the burial site.

After a post-mortem at the Banda Medical College and Hospital in the Banda district was completed, Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Thursday night from a heart attack. His remains were returned to his village on Friday at midnight.

Following the completion of the final rituals at his Ghazipur residence, the family, including his brother Afzal Ansari and son Umar Ansari, accompanied the corpse in a funeral procession to the Kali Bagh burial cemetery. The former mobster became politician.

The burial procession was joined by a sizable throng that yelled support for Ansari.
