Train in a residential area knocks down woman on phone, killing her

Chennai: On Sunday, a lady was strolling along the tracks edge at Tondiarpet railway station when she was struck by a suburban train as she was chatting on the phone. On Monday, she passed away in the hospital.
Vadivukarasi, a resident of New Washermenpet, has been identified as the lady. Her purpose was to board an EMU train. She was struck by an approaching suburban train when she was strolling down platform 1 and chatting on her phone.

The motorman allegedly honked, but several witnesses on the platform said she was talking on the phone and didn’t hear it.
Railroads have been alerting passengers about the dangers of using a cell phone or headphones to listen to music while crossing rails.

About five days before, a different lady was involved in an accident where she was crossing the street while chatting on the phone and was struck fatally by a car. Balari Angulalkuchi Paani, 24, an Assamese native, is dead. She was saved by bystanders, who took her to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital, where she later passed away from her wounds.
