Amritsar: Days after “falling” from the second story, a recently married lady passes away

Days after reportedly falling from the second floor of the residential quarters of Beas Hospital here, a recently married lady passed away, according to authorities on Sunday.

The deceased, named 26-year-old Kavita Kumari from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, died on Saturday at a private hospital here from severe brain injuries she sustained in the fall on March 26.

The police have detained the victim’s spouse, Rajat Kumar and his mother, Lalita Devi, both of whom are Kangra locals, on suspicion of dowry death after a complaint made by the victim’s father, Bhagwan Das.

About five months ago, Bhagwan Das informed the police that his daughter had married Rajat Kumar. She worked as a staff nurse at the hospital, Dera Beas. He added that he received a call five days before from Rajat informing him that his daughter had suffered serious injuries after falling from the second level.

He said that Rajat had threatened her and demanded money from them in the past in exchange for a dowry.

A complaint was filed under Section 304-B of the IPC, according to Sub-Inspector Gurmit Singh of the Beas Police Station, and both defendants were taken into custody.
