Ayodhya Event Live-Streaming by ABVP Ceased in JU; Pro-VC Hurt in Clash

After the authorities halted live-streaming the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya within the campus, ABVP activists and university security personnel got into a fight on Monday that wounded the pro-vice chancellor of Jadavpur University.

The live broadcast of the presentation drew around fifty members of the RSS student wing. An official said that they were enraged when it was halted and began shouting “Jai Shri Ram.”

Pro-VC When Amitabha Dutta requested the students to be silent, they refused, and he and a security officer were slightly hurt in the ensuing brawl.

Dutta declined to comment when asked about the matter.

One of the largest student organizations at the institution, the Students Federation of India (SFI), organized a protest march and a seminar where speakers condemned “any attempt to change history and divide society by the fascist regime.” According to a university administrator, if a program doesn’t disrupt campus tranquility or the academic environment, the institution has nothing to do with it.

Exams for the semester went off without a hitch. We are unable to comment on any event hosted by a student organization,” he said.

The All Bengal University Teachers’ Association (ABUTA) expressed concern about attempts to “hold religious activities on the campus which violates the secular spirit and has no relation with education and public interest” in a letter to Governor CV Ananda Bose, Education Minister Bratya Basu, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. ABUTA representative at JU Goutam Maity remarked that JU stakeholders’ efforts to thwart the efforts of “fascist forces” to instigate unrest on campus were encouraging.
