For PSEB students, English is still a misery despite their best attempts

According to statistics from Class X scores, English is still a nightmare for pupils enrolled in Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)-affiliated government and private institutions. 3,345 students failed the English test in total, but many of them struggled with regional languages like Punjabi, for which 1,415 students failed. It’s not only English that causes problems for kids.

“We have the detailed results with us, including the number of students appearing for a particular exam subject wise and the number of students who passed,” retired Rajpura senior teacher Kuldip Saini said. We determined how many pupils were unable to pass the test.

According to the findings, 1,919 students in science and 3,345 students in English were unable to pass. Following this, 1,415 pupils in Punjabi, 1239 in math, 1209 in social studies, 604 in Hindi, and 425 in computer science were among those failing in different disciplines.

For pupils attending government schools, English has always been a challenging subject, according to a principal who wished to remain anonymous. “There are several causes for that. Their upbringing has left them with little command of the English language and little opportunity for conversation. Kids in rural regions psychologically believe they are not up to par with kids in metropolitan areas or private institutions. The acute personnel shortage is the primary cause. The principal said, “The department is unclear about the staffing gap across a number of topics.

“In the end, instructors bear the guilt, so we are unable to stop it. In addition to instructing the kids, we have additional responsibilities. We are now going about our election business. It is not our responsibility, yet we must go to the block offices to pick up kinnows for the students’ midday lunch. Since there are hundreds of open positions in government schools, one instructor is expected to teach a wide range of courses. The outcomes suffer from the emphasis being diverted to other projects.

According to DEO Harjinder Singh, he is unaware of the exact number of open positions at government schools. It’s a continuous procedure. Some are filled right away, while instructors sometimes retire. Given that more than 2 lakh students took the test across Punjab, I don’t think the number of failed pupils is all that concerning,” he remarked.
