It’s said that when Lord Hanuman was younger, he thought the sun looked like a ripe mango. He attempted to devour it as a result, turning the ground black. Then, in an attempt to preserve the universe, Lord Indra struck Lord Hanuman’s jaw, disfiguring it with his vajra. That is the origin of Lord Hanuman’s name.
All of Lord Rama’s followers were invited to go with him to paradise when he ascended. Lord Hanuman, however, refused, stating that reciting the name of Rama is more pleasant than being in paradise.
