Dolly Jain has been captivated by her mother’s sarees’ grace and elegance since she was born and raised in Bengaluru. However, her love in draping sarees did not blossom till after her marriage and move to Kolkata. After being married, she was permitted to wear sarees, and she discovered various ways to drape them. She eventually realized that everyone around her admired the way she wore the saree and decided to make her art her career.
When Dolly’s other friends and family did not share her interest, her father was the one who encouraged her the most. She went over to Limca Records, but they didn’t seem to be interested in her. “I sent them a CD; they came to Kolkata and I received my first certificate from Limca Records,” she said in an interview. In 2011, Dolly also set a new record for the quickest saree draper, clocking in at 18.5 seconds.

Dolly Jain picked up a number of draping skills and passed them on to other ladies. Her clientele currently includes Isha Ambani, Nita Ambani, Shloka Ambani, Radhika Merchant, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, late Natasha Poonawala, late Sridevi, and others. Designer Sandeep Khosla recommended her to celebrities.
Dolly Jain’s draping method has made a lasting impression on the fashion world, as seen in the sarees worn by Alia Bhatt at her National Award ceremony and Nita Ambani during Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding celebrations. Dolly charges anything from Rs 35,000 to Rs 2 lakh each saree, according to many accounts.
