Date: The twelfth day of the bright half of the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra is when Kurma Dwadashi is celebrated. Kurma Dwadashi will be celebrated on January 22 this year.

Significance: In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is said to have assumed the shape of a tortoise to protect Earth from a cosmic accident when the waters were churning. Lord Vishnu’s second incarnation is called Kurma. Lord Vishnu in the form of a tortoise is worshiped on this day. It is said that fasting on this day and offering prayers to Lord Vishnu may aid in sin atonement and soul purification. On this auspicious day, it is said that introducing silver and ashtadhatu tortoises to your house or place of business would bring prosperity and optimism into your life.
