UGC said the principal would be held accountable for any extreme cases of bullying at the university

New Delhi: In a notice, the University Grants Commission (UGC) outlined the steps that must be done to outlaw, stop, and eradicate ragging in educational institutions. The education board published “Regulations on Curbing Menance of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009,” citing it as a criminal offense. The commission stated that the UGC will take disciplinary measures for any violations of the norms.

The education board has also released statistics for struggling pupils that are tied to ragging. Candidates can check the anti-ragging helpline numbers by going to the UGC’s official website.

The following principles have been requested to be implemented by higher education institutions and councils by the Anti-Ragging Monitoring Committee, which was established by the Supreme Court of India.

-The idea of mentor-mentee must be introduced by the institutions in order to foster a friendly relationship between juniors and seniors.

-The supply of legal advice should strengthen the Anti Ragging Cell and Anti Ragging Squads of institutions in order to make strong cases against the ragging offenders.

-The college principal and university registrar will be contacted in situations of severe bullying and suicide, and they will report to the National Anti-Ragging Monitoring Committee.

-When a major incident involving a suicide or death is reported to any of the Councils or Regulatory Bodies, a committee must be formed to reexamine the matter, even if the case is still being investigated by the police. It is also recommended that the Regulatory Bodies/Councils choose a legal representative for the case.

In order to make sure that the UGC Regulations, which are intended to stop the threat of ragging, are properly followed by HEls, faculty, and students, the Committee has also directed the Anti Ragging Monitoring Agency to step up their vigilance and conduct surprise inspections around the country. The defaulters will face the penalties specified in these regulations.
