UPSC Success Story: Introducing IAS Rukmani Riar, a Class 6 failure who passed the UPSC on her first try without any AIR coaching

The UPSC Civil Services Exam is one of the most difficult tests in India. Thousands of UPSC candidates take the test each year in hopes of becoming IAS officials. However, very few of them are able to pass the UPSC test and be appointed as IAS officials. We shall discuss IAS Rukmani Riar in this post, who scored second on her first try in the UPSC test.

Rukmani Riar struggled in school and dropped out of the sixth grade. After completing her education in Gurdaspur, Rukmani enrolled in class 4 at Dalhousie’s Sacred Heary School. Rukmani Rair, an IAS official, received his social science degree from Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev University. She graduated from Mumbai’s Tata Institute with a master’s degree in social sciences.

Rukmani completed an internship with NGOs like Ashoda in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai after her graduation from TISS Mumbai with a master’s degree. Rukmani decided to take the UPSC test after becoming interested in public service while working for the NGO.

Rukmani Riar obtained an AIR 2 in 2011 after successfully passing the UPSC on his first try. She chose not to enroll in coaching after using self-study to pass the UPSC.

From sixth to twelfth grade, she read newspapers and publications on a daily basis and depended on NCER books.

The success story of Rukmani Riar has resonance outside of the classroom and competitive examinations. It is a story of the human spirit’s victory, resiliency, and persistence. Her story of going from failing Class 6 to getting an All India Rank in the UPSC test serves as motivation for many others who are experiencing obstacles. Rukmani’s experience shows us that everything is achievable if one has the correct support system and an unflinching commitment to achieving their goals.
