A BJP leader urges the ‘corrupt’ TMC politicians who are being sought by the CBI and ED to get in touch with him; the party distances themselves

Anupam Hazra, the national secretary of the BJP, sparked debate when he said that “corrupt” TMC politicians who were receiving summonses from the CBI or ED could get in touch with him to join the saffron party, which prompted the state unit to distance itself from his statement. Even though Hazra subsequently claimed his statement had been “misconstrued,” the governing TMC responded angrily, claiming that the BJP has transformed into a “washing machine” and is utilizing government institutions to further its political objectives.

At the party’s organizational meeting at Bolpur, in the Birbhum district, Hazra made the remark. On Monday night, the video footage went viral, but the PTI was unable to confirm its legitimacy. “Those TMC leaders who are freely moving about wearing heavy gold bracelets and chains are worried that the CBI or ED may call them. They should immediately cease engaging in corrupt behavior, I’d want to advise them from this platform,” he remarked.

You may get in touch with me by visiting my Facebook page. You may get in contact with me and let me know your request if you’re hesitant to approach me and express your desire to join the BJP. When speaking to a group of people in Bolpur, Hazra remarked, “We will see how your services may be utilized for the party. The BJP has tight rules surrounding the admittance of corrupt leaders, but he was also overheard adding that members who had earlier engaged in unethical behavior “but now want to lead an honest life and currently have a good image” are always welcome to join the saffron party.

Hazra then claimed that his remarks had been misinterpreted when speaking to PTI. “My remarks have become exaggerated. Did I indicate that dishonest leaders will be accepted into the party and given positions? I had suggested that people who are currently living honorably and have a good reputation might join the party,” he remarked.

However, the state BJP unit disassociated itself from Hazra’s statement. The state unit disagrees with his stance on the practice of appointing corrupt leaders, and neither do we. Rest of it, the central leadership should react on what he stated,” said Samik Bhattacharya, a BJP state spokesman.

Hazra later questioned whether a state spokesman had the right to react on statements made by the party’s national secretary in a post on the social media platform X. If a state-level leader or spokesperson is allowed to respond to statements made by a national-level leader or party secretary, such question may be answered by those who have studied the BJP’s organizational procedure. As far as I am aware, that is against party rules and discipline. Similar to how a police officer in charge of a station cannot evaluate the job done by the superintendent of police,” he said in his post.

In response to Hazra’s comments, TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP leader had exposed the saffron camp’s use of the CBI and ED to induct dishonest officials. “We have been claiming for a while that the BJP has devolved into a washing machine where all corrupt politicians instantly become sages after joining the party. It has now been shown that the BJP exclusively seeks to promote corrupt officials, the speaker said.(This article, which was taken from a syndicated news agency feed provided by PTI, has not been edited by News18 staff.)
