A Chandigarh court condemns snatchers to two to five years in jail

In a two-year-old snatching case, a local court has sentenced two individuals to five years of harsh jail. Each prisoner was additionally fined Rs. 25,000 by the court.

On September 20, 2021, Savitari Devi, a resident of Dadu Majra Colony, filed a complaint with the police, after which the accused, Ashu, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, and Nitin, a resident of Mohali, were charged under relevant provisions of the IPC.

According to the complaint, a guy stole her gold chain at a Manimajra market on September 17, 2021. Along with another youngster who was waiting for him nearby on a motorcycle, the guy fled the scene.

The chain and two stolen bikes were found on the accused over the course of the inquiry, which resulted in their arrest.

The public prosecutor said that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt at the court hearing, while the accused’s attorney claimed that the accused was wrongfully charged in the case. Following the hearing of the arguments, the court imposed a strict five-year jail term on both guilty parties.
