AAP claims a woman was set up in a narcotics case, but police refute this

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has questioned the district police’s conduct in a purported “drugs case” in which a police officer was given narcotics to place on a female officer.

At a news conference held here today, AAP leaders provided the media with audio snippets and CCTV evidence in support of their claim.

Surjeet Singh, the head of the Farmers’ Wing in the area, and AAP national council member Virendra Kumar said that on April 1, a police squad searched Simarjeet Kaur’s home in Taruana village in the Sirsa district, seizing 1,785 illegal intoxication pills. In this situation, a FIR was submitted.

The narcotics were allegedly put in Simarjeet’s residence. In order to catch Simarjeet, it is said that Head Constable Ramesh Kumar gave drugs to a lady named Karamjeet Kaur.

The AAP leaders allegedly told Ramesh Kumar about “task completion” on an audio tape that was broadcast. At that point, Ramesh Kumar threatened to file a complaint against Simarjeet and have her taken into custody.

Furthermore, they displayed CCTV video, saying that the police had taken the CCTV hard drive during the search, which showed Karamjeet Kaur visiting Simarjeet’s residence on a scooter many times.

Simarjeet Kaur has written to the Chief Minister and police authorities, among other people, pleading for justice. The leader of the AAP, Virendra Kumar, called for strict punishment of the offenders and a comprehensive probe into the situation.

The Superintendent of Police in Dabwali, Sumer Singh, refuted the accusations made against the police, saying that Karamjeet, the suspected conspirator who had been charged in NDPS cases before, had been taken into custody by the police.

He made it clear that Simarjeet Kaur, whose home was searched and drugs found, was not the target of any action. He said that a youngster was also taken into custody by the police based on information that Karamjeet had given them about the child allegedly keeping drug capsules in Simarjeet Kaur’s residence.

He went on to say that DSP Kalawali was looking into the situation and that whatever came out of it would be used to guide future action.
