Abohar: Man captured by a honeytrap group freed, five fall into police net

The police of Punjab and Rajasthan came together quickly to arrange the first joint operation after the inter-state conference of top police officials in Sriganganagar to free a middle-aged man who was being kept captive by a honey trap gang near Mamdot in Ferozepur.

It was purportedly asked by the gang members that they receive a ransom of Rs 4 lakh in return for his release.

Following the police’s successful rescue of Phusa Ram (48), the five gang members, Chuni Lal, Bhupinder Singh, Baldev Singh, Paramjit Singh, and Narinder Kaur were apprehended. Phusa Ram lived in Jalalsar hamlet in Rajasthan, close to Mamdot. During the remand, the suspects will be questioned about their criminal background, according to a Rajasthan Police officer.

Lalu Ram, the victim’s brother, said that Phusa had left the house on March 27 and had not returned by nightfall. Phusa called them the next morning to let them know that he had traveled to Punjab at their request in order to locate Lalu a suitable marriage. However, he was abducted and kept captive by three or four individuals. Phusa informed him that they had produced his fictitious, lewd film with a lady and were requesting Rs 4 lakh in order to keep the incident quiet.

Lalu said that a while later, he received a call from one of the suspects demanding money, claiming that he would have to pay it to him if he wanted to see him alive. In addition, he asked Lalu to transfer the funds and provided him an account number.

Lalu informed the authorities that one of his pals, Arshad Shah, had received a photocopy of the bank passbook for the aforementioned account over WhatsApp from the caller. Baldev Singh was the owner of the bank account. He attempted, but was unable, to transfer the money.

Once the local police were notified, the Rajasthan Police promptly got in touch with the Ferozepur district police, who confirmed their whereabouts and managed to rescue Phusa.
